EXCITED WITH THE TWO LONG WEEKENDS OF AUGUST

Over at Plurk last night (haha! yes, we’re into this addiction right now), Cookie, Chats and lil’o me was talking about the declared holidays for the month of August and gosh, did we all felt giddy excited realizing that the last two consecutive weekends (August 16-18 and August 23-25) are long weekends! August 18 is Ninoy Aquino Day so it’s a holiday and August 25, the following Monday, is National Heroes Day, a special non-working holiday as well. :)

And what makes it more exciting for Cookie and Chats was that, it’s even a longer weekend on their end since they are both Quezon City residents! As it is known, August 19th is Quezon City Day, so a non-working holiday for them again! Woooohoooo!

This conversation on long weekends then eventually led us to swap stories on what our plans for the much-anticipated long weekends are. Cookie and her hezzies and Hubby will be going to Subic for the nth time. :) Excited that she is, she’s done booking as early as now with a hotel in the Freeport zone. Chats, meanwhile is still thinking of her plans for the long weekends. But with more cheering and influencing from Subic-addicted Cookie, I won’t be surprise Chats will soon give in. Haha! WHILE WAITING FOR THE LITTLE PROJECT TO BE FINISHED…

The construction of the little play area project in the house is in full swing, so we opted not to go anywhere during the weekend. The progress was supposed to be around 70 percent complete, but heavy rains caused the little project to be a bit delayed.  :( So for the weekend that passed, we just stayed at home to supervise and make sure that the construction goes a little speedier. You know, labor costs are considerably eating up the conservative budget that we allocated for the project that no budget software can fix.

Yay, I can’t wait till the little project gets finished really really sooooon. And so is Nico, who, aside from consistently checking how the project is going, just contented himself tossing and playing with the stock of tokens we’re suppose to use and enjoy this recent weekend at Tom’s World. A LITTLE PLAY AREA PROJECT FOR MY LITTLE BOY

I have a little project for the home which is running for two weeks already.  Hopefully, if our little budget will permit it, the project will be finished before the month ends.  Nothing so grand about the project.  Gosh, we certainly can’t afford a major renovation in the house at this belt-tightening times, even if there are mortgage lenders that can possibly be sourced with funds. It’s just our former bodega cum quasi-garage to be turned into a space for the Little Boy’s play area. ;) I’ll share photos when the project’s finished.

In the meantime, here’s leaving you a photo the Little Boy, who used to dream about being a delivery boy before.  Now, he wants to be a construction worker. Haha!

AT THESE TIMES WHEN OIL PRICES ARE SKYROCKETING HIGH: TIPS ON SAVING FUEL

I don’t usually post forwarded emails in this Blog.  But this one which give tips on saving up on gas is worth posting, especially at these times when gas prices are skyrocketing high (way higher than having an acne treatment).  Ugh.

Got this from Hubby who was forwarded with the email from a co-Rotarian. :)

Tips on saving fuel from BJ Jose
We all know that the price of petroleum products are increasing at an insane rate. With this so-called continued increase, prices of every commodity we use everyday as well as food increases.

For us who own a car, motorcycle and even a generator, a little help will be very significant. So I want to share to you this tips that my friend in a forum posted.

please read…

I want to share this, it was posted on Volkswagen Club of the Philippines Forum that I am active too. Hope this helps everyone.

I don’t know what you guys are paying for petrol… But here in Durban , we are also paying higher, up to Php47.35 per litre.

But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every litre.

Here at the Marian Hill Pipeline, where I work in Durban , we deliver about 4 million litres in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.

One day is diesel; the next day is jet fuel, and petrol, LRP and unleaded. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 litres. Continue Reading »

OF NFA RICE AND SAVING UP

See those sacks of NFA rice above? Two of those sacks are mine while the others are my officemates’. We purchased sacks of rice straight from the National Food Authority South District Office in Taguig just last Friday. We took advantage of the government employees’ privilege to buy a maximum of 25-kilo worth of NFA rice per month. ;)

Now why two sacks for me? Because an officemate begged off to take home his sack of rice. Dressed in a formal business suit and all accessorized in Johnston and Murphy get-up when he went to work today, he’s afraid he can’t bring the 25-kilo sack of rice home because he’ll be commuting later . Haha! Wa-poise nga naman. He was too lazy to bring his car to work thinking that it’s more practical to commute because gasoline prices are way too steep and soaring high.

As for me, that turned out to be favorable. Heehee. Hubby has a delivery in the Makati area today, and he’ll fetch me later anyway, so taking the two sacks of rice home serves double purpose. ;) Haha! That’s hapit sa pagtitipid for us!

In this day in age where almost everything you need to live has gone up (if there’s one thing that haven’t gone up yet, I think it would be safe to say, it’s the poor Juan’s salary), it’s a big relief (even for my little family who consumes no more than five kilos of rice every week) to be able to avail of the NFA rice which costs P625 per 25-kilo sack. It maybe a small amount of savings, but still is SAVINGS!

CLEANING UP THE MESS THAT FRANK DID

The rains has stopped and the sun’s brightly shinning on my side of the world. As per latest news updates, typhoon Frank is already heading towards North and storm signals were already lowered in most areas of Luzon including Metro Manila. Good thing it was announced last night that there’s no classes today, at least we need not rush doing early morning routines. ;)

Now, the next thing to do is to clean up the mess that Frank did. On our part, thank goodness nothing untoward happened. There was no electricity for about 12 hours but at least water supply was not interrupted which is a very good thing.  We can survive without electricity but without water, that’s another story.

This is the Philippines.  Third World, you see. Lucky if we were blessed to have something like a disaster cleanup company that they have in the US where the right company with just a phone call away, acts fast and make the water nothing more than a memory with 24 hour, 7 day emergency service. “We can be on the scene in 30 minutes in most areas within the continental United States,” its website says.

Good thing, on our part, only an Ipil tree needs to be cut down in our backyard.  Strong winds blew down the thin young tree. Continue Reading »

EXCITED WITH NICO’S CAMPING ACTIVITY IN SCHOOL

One of the highlight activities of Nico in school this year will be a two-day outdoor camping somewhere in Antipolo. “The activity will imbue children with self-reliance and love of nature that will pay them dividends for a lifetime,” the copy of the Kindergarten’s curriculum stated and which I so agree.

And though the much-awaited activity will still be in December but I can’t help but feel a wee bit excited and daydream about it this early simply because Mommies and Daddies will also come along with the kids in the camp. Heehee. The camping activity also serves as the school’s Family Day, that’s why. Just picture this: Me, Hubby and Nico—our tight little family unit trekking through the sun-dappled woods, spotting wildlife, enjoying spectacular natural scenery, learning about nature, building strength, and bonding. Haha! That’s how excited and imaginative I am for many days now since I knew of the camping activity.

But seriously, camping is one commendable activity that makes me want to heart Nico’s new school more, considering its many benefits: a fun and exciting way to bond as a family and connect with nature while at the same time, a great family together-time to really get to know and tell stories with the rest of the school’s co-parents and their kids.

And being the overly excited Mom that I am, I thought it would be good to prepare for the camping this early. Haha! Talk about being giddy more than my Little Boy huh? But of course, proper preparation is key to a successful outing like having everything we’d be needing for a safe yet fun and entertaining camping trip. Continue Reading »
