I CAN DO CARPENTRY WORK (SOMETIMES)
This is my answer to Teacher Julie’s Question for the Week: What man jobs can you do?
We are doing some minor renovations at home now, including the living room, dining area and the kitchen, plus Nico’s little play area. And never a day I did not take time to constantly monitor and check the progress of the carpenter’s and the mason’s work. I’m getting a little bit impatient how they work as I find them too slowwww. My frustration makes me want to grab the hammer and do the carpentry work or get the shovel to mix the cement, if only to make the work faster.
So what did I do to resolve my frustration at how things are going? Well, aside from making it a hobby to pour my frustrations with Hubby (well, he doesn’t have choice but to listen to me, no matter how repetitive I am of my complaints), I had this idea to do something more fruitful rather than just being their all day, checking and monitoring the work progress, then only ending up being frustrated.
Leftover wood scraps and ply boards from the new kitchen cabinets were sitting in a corner of the old garage. What I did I do with them? Guess what? I made a little study chair for Nico.
You don’t believe me, don’t you? Well, here’s the proof. ![]()

Of course, I had a little helping from Hubby, like cutting the pieces of wood. Hubby was even offering to assemble and nail everything for me, but I resisted. I made sure I did the nailing of the chair parts and every pukpok of that hammer, oh boy, it sure released my frustration about the slowwwww progress of the construction. Inimagine ko na lang, yung hinahammer ko eh yung mga mababagal na trabahador sa bahay.![]()
It really felt good inside.
The finished product doesn’t look that nice as a professionally-made hammock chair (hehe, actually, medyo hindi proportioned yung arm rest), but nevertheless, I love it! The very product of my labor of love, este, my frustration pala. I never thought I can do a man job. Turned out, I can do carpentry work. Sometimes. ![]()
