ANTICIPATING THE END OF THE WAITING GAME
Nico’s been experiencing an on-and-off fever since Saturday and for fear it might be dengue, off we went yesterday afternoon to the nearest hospital in our area for a complete blood and platelet count. We had the results interpreted by the doctor early this morning, and thankfully, the values were within the normal ranges and no cause for alarm. That would however be, as of now.
As it is known, this dreaded disease that often is prevalent during the rainy season is a waiting game. The progression of dengue occurs after 3-5 days of fever and the time when the fever has often come down, this may mislead many to believe that the patient is heading towards recovery. This is the most dangerous period that requires high vigilance, which is why, we’ll have another round of blood tests tomorrow to find out if the values had change and if these are significant to conclude it’s really dengue.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the results tomorrow will be insignificant and that it’s just nothing but a plain viral infection that would wore out of Nico’s body on its own soon. It doesn’t help that Nico’s still in his kulit self the whole day, only to be more worried later in the afternoon when his temperature rises to 39 to 40.

Sigh. I just can’t stand days like these. You know, the waiting game. Nico’s been overly matamlay for the past few days. And what’s worst, he hasn’t been really eating well. No appetite for solids, just a few gulps of milk to serve as his major meal. I just hope and pray that we’ll get the game over and done with tomorrow, and that everything turns out well.

hi Cess. Nico had his second round of CBC and platelet count this morning. we’ll have the results discussed with the pedia this afternoon. hope the doc can already conclude what it is. and sana nga, hindi naman dengue.
Hi Feng,
I wish and pray for a speedy recovery for Nico.
Share lang ako–Ony this holy week my daughter was infected by dengue. the first hospital that we went to had to send us home kasi normal pa daw yung platelet nya at less than 24 hours pa lang sya nilalagnat (but she was as red as an apple already) The following morning, i was still so worried becaase di bumababa lagnat and she doest’t really want to take anything, kahit milk or water lang. I have to rush her this time to a differenct hospital and her platelet has already dropped (to thing na yung fever nya is only about 1 day palang). They have to immediately admit her and we spent 10 days in the hospital to let her recover. Feng, don’t get me wrong, I’m just sharing my experience. Not all dengues have to be diagnosed after several days of fever. Isinumpa ko talaga yung unang hospital na yun at never na kami pupunta dun kahit na yun yung pinakalmalapit amin.
hi Jo.
thanks for sharing the story re: your daughter. I can only imagine how worrisome it was for you going through that dengue experience. iba na syempre ang worry nating mga Mommies when it comes to dreaded diseases like dengue. nakakatakot lalo na yung mga nababalitaan natin sa news. wala pa naman ibang cure kundi to keep the patient hydrated at all times. good for you at nag decide kayong pa check sya ulit. iba na talaga ang Mom’s instict, diba.
ay naku, yung ganyang hospital, meron din kaming na experience na ganyan. ang susungit pa nung tao sa ER, to think na they should be more accommodating kasi ER yung place of assignment nila. eh naku, walk out nga ginawa namin nung walang mag-asikaso.
How was the second blood test, Feng?
We hope everything is ok na.

T.Julie, eto resulta 232 platelet count nung Aug 5, this AM it’s 230, so good news! though ang low ng hemoglobin nya, 129 only, normal is between 135-180 for males. kaya siguro, tama yung doc, dapat mag Ferlin si Nico.
Naku, sana talaga its not dengue. I hope Nico gets better soon. Please give him a huge hug for me

Cookie, masyado akong tinatakot nung doctor. pero as it seems dun sa checkup nya kanina, viral infection lang. sana nga, ganun na lang. at buti naman, hindi na sya nilagnat today. pero wala pa rin gana kumain. hay.
Hi Feng. Hope Nico is much better now. I’m glad that it was only a viral infection. The threat of dengue is so scary and I understand how anxious you were to finally get the results.
