TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY A NEW WASHING MACHINE
The weather’s been so unpredictable lately. In the morning, the sun is brightly shining. Then mid-day to mid afternoon, we’re scorching and sweltering in heat as if summer is still here to stay. But whoa, later in the afternoon, we’ll be surprised because it’ll be raining so hard. And with heavy downpours like what’s been happening for over a few weeks now makes me want to think it’s the start of the rainy season. Oh well, at least we get to take a few dips in the water this summer, so no regrets if the rainy season is already here.
What began to make me go nuts though was doing the laundry this rainy season. Wrong timing if one may call it, but our trusty seven-year old washing machine seemed to have conked out already. Yes, that washing machine has been with us since the time we got married and not a single laundry day that it failed me. Tsk, too bad it happened at this time that the rainy season is just starting. And domestic divas out there know that washing machines and dryers are just heaven’s sent especially during the rainy season because at least clothes just can just dry up instantly. And since last week it was malfunctioning, our house angel has been doing the laundry manually. You know, the kuskos, piga, sampay thingie. She isn’t complaining yet, but I can already sense she will soon.
So before I get to receive the complaints, I’ve already called Samsung’s Service Center to check on our unit and see what’s causing the spin function to malfunction. After doing the check just last Wednesday, the repair man said the unit needs to overhauled already. Apparently, the gear box is defective and the pressure sensor should be replaced already so that the unit can function fully. Of course, I’m all for a go, go, go with the replacement. Why not? That is, if I didn’t see the receipt of check-up which details the estimate of the labor and materials. Here, take a look:

The repair of the unit costs P6,000! Whoa, that’s way too much for a repair because as Hubby and I had initially canvassed, the prices of fully automatic washing machines in appliance stores here ranges from P10,500 to P26,000 depending on the brands.
These said, I was having second thoughts on whether to just buy a new unit or proceed with the repair. You see, I find P6,000 quite too much for just a repair and Hubby said it wont even guarantee that the wash machine will function as brand new. However, shelving that amount of money wouldn’t be too much, I think, compared to buying a new one which would expectedly damage our wallets twice the repair amount. But the best thing with buying a new one is at least, we’re guaranteed its working. It’s pretty difficult to shelve a good amount especially if it’s like us who are tightening up belts. Hard earned money isn’t that easy to let go at these times, you know.
Ahhh, this domestic dilemma is making me want to go nuts. And our clothes that’s been manually washed are making me crazy too. They’re all over the house because we can’t even hang the clothes in the backyard because it’s always raining that even the curtain rods in our bedroom were not spared. Sheez.

Anyway, if there’s any consolation for me, it’s certainly surfing and clicking Dealtime.co.uk, is a great site helping tech-savvy shoppers to find the right product at the right price. I’m hardly a techie person myself but I find the site having a very user-friendly interface in searching for the washing machine of my dream. Thanks to the product reviews in that site, choosing the washing machine of my dream was just easy as 123. Sigh. At least, if there’s anything free in this world, that’s definitely dreaming on and dreaming on some more. And it’s not only the washing machine I’ve been dreaming. Heehee. Because the site also offer searches on a wide range of goods from digital cameras, LCD TVs, iPods, through laptops to notebooks, I’ve been fantacizing on them too.

Cess, guess what? we’re going to buy a new one today. tama ka, worth it naman mag invest into something na very useful sa household. yoko nang mag aksaya ng pera for the repair, mahirap na. at least itong bago, i cre credit card na lang namin, zero interest na, 12 months to pay pa. hahaha!
Hi Feng, I also had Samsung before, Raycon is also our service/repair center. Like you I was charged a huge amount to replace the board or something. I just let it go. There goes my trusted machine to the nearby junkshop…I bought na lang new one esp. when we opened our laundry shop. I opted for Whirpoool washer and dryer.
hi Wenchie. Samsung ka din? eh naku, ang sira nun sa spin function, ayaw na gumana. eh kesa naman makunsume pa ako sa repair, wag na lang. nag buy na lang kami ng bago today, pero hindi as professional as your Whirlpool wash machines in the laundry shop. hehe. wish ko lang sana tumagal din sa amin just like the old one.
tama feng, bumili ka na lang ng bago. as you said, 6 years na ang washing machine mo. baka gusto na niyang magretire. hee hee.

Hi Weng! you said it right, mukhang retiring na ang wash machine namin. nakakaawa nga sya pag pinag pipilitan pa din namin gamitin. mukhang hirap na hirap na sya. heehee. na guilty naman ako, napabili tuloy kami ng bago.
dont tell me ganyan na rin ang drama sa pinas? dito instead of having a machine repaired kahit na konti lang diprensya, bili ka na ng bago kasi nga mas mahal pa ang repair. pero yung last machine namin was 25 years old kaya ok lang na mag say bye bye kami
know what, buy!

Raq, 25 years old. gosh, that’s a lifetime already dito sa Pinas! I wonder lang kung meron ganyan katibay dito sa atin.
oo, bumili na rin kami ng bago. wawa naman si old wash machine eh. kung pwede lang siguro magsalita yon, nag reklamo na yon to the max.
