WHEN LAZINESS IS TURNED INTO CREATIVITY

It’s Friday today on my side of the planet and am already in a weekend mode. Good thing there’s nothing much to do today, except for some pending paper works for Hubby related to our little growing business. First on my list of to do’s which I have accomplished this far is our monthly billing statements for our clients. Gee, that sure is important and it was what I prioritized or else, our delivery boys will not be salaried tomorrow. ;)

My second task would be to do our BIR papers like SAWT (Statement of Assets and Withholding Taxes) and the Monthly Percentage Tax Return or Form 2551M. Geez, that’s one drawback with a Non-VAT business like ours, you always have to accomplish and file these papers to BIR or else you’ll get penalized. Actually, these papers are really easy to accomplish. It’s only a matter of simulating the income vs. the expenses, then attaching the receipts, and that’s it. Well, that is, if not the lazy me didn’t have the drive to finish thetasks as early as possible. These are those matters that will have a percentage of our hard-earned money going to Mr. Caesar a.ka. BIR, and whenever the end of month nears, it’s just so difficult to accomplish this task.

And since there’s still tomorrow anyway…. Guess what? I temporarily put the BIR papers aside and did something that’s not so urgent. But I swear Hubby would be happy to know this later when he’s home because I’ll claim it’s laziness converted into creativity.

You don’t believe me, don’t you? Oh, well then take a look: Continue Reading »

ON BEING FRUGAL AND REAPING THE BENEFITS OF DISCOUNT COUPONS

Last night, I am doing a quick filing of the latest bills and papers we accumulated lately when suddenly I saw some discount coupons attached to Nico’s enrollment documents related to his swimming lessons with BLSS. The coupons consisted of discounts to Big & Small Company’s line of clothing like Spin and Havin’ A Baby. Spin is Big & Small’s line of cool and fun activewear for boys while Havin’ is a great shopping haven for fashionable wannabe expectant Moms.

The discovery of the neglected discount coupons came at the right timing for me because I’ve been really planning to shop the Little Boy his new clothes. Nico’s growing really really fast that the clothes I bought him a few months ago looked as if they shrunk when worn. Heehee.

Anyway, with the coupons, I am expecting to save as much as 10 percent each for my soon-to-be purchases. And since I am going to shop the Little Boy his two new short pants (that would cost around P500 each) plus five polo shirts (worth P350 each), savings I initially computed will be around P275! Not bad right? Considering that the amount I would expect to save, I can readily use it for another purchase. An additional pair of socks maybe? Continue Reading »

REDEFINING ROMANCE

Just had my regular reads of some electronic newsletters today and one article caught my attention so much that I found myself just nodding and agreeing with every word it stated.

It was an article writen by Gwen Morrison, a freelance author based in Georgia, who narrated an inspiring story about how she and her husband thought of romance in their married life, after being so occupied with parenting and being a Mommy and Daddy for over 10 years. In short, it was romance redefined.

Gwen just illustrated it so right how romance between the husband and the wife is not just about candlelight dinners and dates at romantic restaurants and movie houses, or an intimate night together with the spouse wearing some Shirley of Hollywood lingerie. LOL. Instead, she pointed out that romance in marriage is simply sharing life together. Here’s quoting some portion of that article: Continue Reading »

THE DREADED PCOS ATTACKED AGAIN

At last, I was able to squeeze an appointment with my Ob-gyne yesterday after so many years [read: years] of procrastinating (heehee, my bad, right?) The pressure to see the doctor finally was initially stimulated by the plan to conceive, God willing, hopefully within the year. Added to that, I suspected that something unusual is happening in my cycle again after experiencing about a couple of delayed monthly periods which had resulted to false alarms. The first was last March which should have arrived first week of March, and the second last April, but until now, I haven’t had the period.

And true enough, when the doctor did the nerve-wracking trans-v ultrasound, there goes those tiny cysts in both my left and right ovaries again. PCOS or short for polycystic ovary syndrome, it attacked my system for the nth time. My Ob-gyne said it will still take a while before I can conceive. The hormonal imbalance has to be treated first and I have to take doses of progesterone for a certain period of time so as to induce ovulation.

In the meantime that the imbalance is being corrected, my doc also advised me to at least shed some unwanted pounds. At the very least, she said I should weigh just about my pre-pregnancy weight with Nico which was around 90-95 pounds, if I am really dead serious at getting pregnant pretty soon.

Geez, it wasn’t much of an embarrassment because my Ob-gyne and I are very comfortable at talking with each other, but I felt a little bit depressed she obviously noticed my siopao face, my big arms, and the bulging tummy that I have—all depicting I’ve gained so much weight. Sigh.

Oh well, at least that comment served as an alarming wake up call for me. I should really shape up or else the longing for a little one to carry in the warmth of my arms will remain nothing but a dream. Less intake of carbohydrates and fatty foods, avoid sweets, more of healthy food, and lots of exercise, I guess. Should that suffice enough as battle plan? Continue Reading »

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO A LASTING MARRIAGE

[This is my answer to Teacher Julie’s Weekly Question for this week: If you are married would you know if your husband is reading your blog? If you are in a relationship, would you know if your partner is reading your blog?]

Just like any form of human relationships, communication plays a very important role in a marriage. In fact, it is, more often than not, the key factor for a marriage to be long lasting. As one book had put it:

The heart of marriage is its communication system…But no couple begins with highly developed communication. It is not something they bring into marriage ready, but something to be continually cultivated through all the experiences of their shared life.”

And I so agree. Honestly, mine and Hubby’s marriage is far from being perfect. I clearly remember there were so many times (I think I’ve lost count) that we disagreed on so many things simply because we lack, or should I say, fail to really sit down and talk.

An example of this miscommunication just happened so recently. Remember the dark tunnel we’re traveling? Just so recently, we’re traversing one of the roughest roads in our married life. If only I have the courage to share everything, but to put it simply, the lack of communication between the two of us made the situation worst. Continue Reading »

LIVING IN A GC WORLD ESP. ON WEEKENDS

Yes, you read it right. We’re sorta, kinda living in a GC world these past few days–GC, as in gift certificates/ gift cheques, most especially on weekends. ;) Thanks to my dear Hubby, who unexpectedly was handed with so many GCs by the company he is now doing consultancy. There were several exchange deals he successfully worked on, and since most of them aren’t convertible to cash, the company had GCs as payment instead.

I was pretty much surprised a few days ago when Hubby handed me the GCs. Pathetic, if you might want to call it. But from food restos, museums, theme parks, retail chain outlets, to boutiques–ahhh, name it, we might just have it. Told him candidly: “Hey, thanks but no thanks. But I need cash!” Heehee. Of course, partly of that remark, I honestly meant it because no matter how much arithmetic I did, the equivalent of these GCs is definitely way good enough to serve as tuition fee for my son’s schooling this year. Oh well, as Hubby had put it: “Let’s savor those GCs. Better have something, than nothing”.

And so we’ve been relying on those GCs for a couple of weeks now. The first round of booklets [read: booklets] of GCs we’re burning right now is that of Kenny Rogers. The most number of GCs we have are from Kenny’s, so it’s but logical to use it off first. And like today, after hearing the 3PM Mass and some Malling (I was looking for a newborn stroller for my niece), we ate at Kenny’s again and oh my, I have a little story to tell. Continue Reading »

TWO BIRTHDAYS AND A DESPEDIDA

24 May 2008 — It’s was busy weekend on my side of the family. It was Mom’s 57th Birthday last Friday, the 23rd and my niece’s 6th Birthday on the 28th. We’re all set for an intimate celebration in my Mom’s for the two birthdays because the double celebration was something that we do yearly.  ;)

But what made yesterday’s family affair a wee bit sentimental and special was that, it became sort of a farewell party for my brother who’ll be leaving for Singapore a few days from now.
