GREAT EXPECTATIONS AND IGNORANT QUESTIONS AT NICO’S FUN-FILLED FAMILY DAY

It was 10 minutes past one o’clock in the afternoon when we arrived at the place where the School’s Family Day will be held. It was a very hot, sunny Saturday and all three of us—Hubby, me and Nico were all sweating, not just because of the weather, but because we’re afraid our Little Boy could not make it in time for his very first performance on stage among a big crowd. We were all in a hurry, dashing through the gate’s entrance with a thought of blaming ourselves for preparing so late to think that we were even pre-advised by Nico’s Teacher to be in the place early as preschoolers will be the first performer among the production numbers of students.

A sigh of relief we thankfully felt soon as we heard (on the big black speakers positioned almost behind us) the host of the program advising that the program should start in 20 more minutes. PRE-FAMILY DAY PICTORIAL WOES AT NICO’S SCHOOL

(Journaled 01 February 2008)

The last few days have been quite busy doing some stage mommying job for my Little Boy as the Family Day in his school is approaching this Saturday. After the end of the third grading period last week, Nico and classmates (and I guess, all of the participating students in school) have been practicing their parts for the much-awaited school event. It’s quite exhausting joining the last stretch of practices and dress rehearsals, but the fulfillment of seeing my Little Boy as he goes through this phase in his schooling life was no doubt worth all the time and effort.

Before the Family Day, the school had a pictorial of all the students wearing the costumes they’ll be using. The school administrators said pre-event pictorials are held so that at least they, as well as the students, have something decent and standard souvenir to keep of the Family Day. Aside from other important school events, I have to believe that Family Day is one of the most-remembered culminating activities in school and holding pre-event pictorials for the students sounds the most logical thing to do since the students are still in their relaxed state.

And of course, being the stage Mom that I am, I didn’t let the pictorial pass just like that. I took the opportunity to snap and click my camera and document this very first in my Little Boy’s schooling life. Good thing the official photographer was very approachable for some of my questionings with the camera settings, I learned so many about the technical side of tinkering the camera for almost half an hour that we have to wait for the other kids to get ready.
