PLAYING MEMORY-MATCHING GAME: THE NICO WAY
And so Nico’s been hooked to playing computer games lately. Well, not that we’re tolerating him to get addicted, but we’ve thought that allowing him to invade some precious space in front of the computer for a few minutes wouldn’t hurt. He’s a growing little kid exploring and developing at his own phase anyway, so for as long as computer gaming is done in moderation, that’s just perfectly fine with us.
Anyway, after being amused with the colors and shapes of Zuma and Bejeweled for quite sometime, our Little Boy has been hooked lately to Caillou’s Series of Educational Games. We’ve had the Caillou CDs (by the way, the CD versions are far much better and comprehensive than the online version) when Nido Fortified had them as freebies back when Nico was around 2 years old but it was only lately that we had the chance to install it. And since the day it was installed, Nico got hooked and discovered the fun of answering the quizzes. I think I have mentioned that Nico’s an Alphabet and Numbers addict, but surprising it was when the Little Boy preferred playing Caillou’s Thinking Skills series more than the Alphabet and Numbers game series.
Anyway, before I really get myself too out of topic to the title of this post, let me go straight to what it’s suppose to mean.
Of Caillou’s Thinking Skill series, one of the games there that Nico often play is the Memory-Matching game. You know, the one with the picture cards that should be matched with another one by flipping the front side. Memory skills are said to be enhanced with the game as the player needs to remember the location of the first flipped picture card till he/she is able to match it with it’s pair. Malinaw ba explanation ko, o lalong gumulo. Heehee. That’s the bestest way I could explain it.
Anyhow. So Nico’s been playing the Memory-Matching game alright. But at one time I observed the way he play it was kinda amusing (at least for me, heehee). You see, instead of using just the mouse to hover the arrow and click it to the picture cards, he has his own peculiar way: hover the arrow to the picture cards by navigating through the laptop’s touchpad, then when the arrow’s already positioned to the picture card, that’s the only time he’s going to click the left mouse button to flip the card!
Naku, lalo yatang gumulo ang explanation ko! Sige na nga, share ko na lang ang video of what I’ve been attempting to blab about—Playing the Memory-Matching Game: The Nico Way! (But then, I have to apologize again for the not-so-lighted and somewhat blurry video. And lubos-lubusin ko na rin ang excuses. Please bear with the 2minutes 30 seconder loooonggg video.)

Ay naku, magsama sila ni Gaby and Adi. But it’s Adi that likes Matching games. She likes doing stuff on the Fisher-Price site. Gaby likes doing online jigsaw puzzles. Have you heard of Jumpstart? My cousin-in-law who is a teacher is all praises for that series.
Next thing you know nagpapabili na ng laptop si Nico
Cookie, talaga? ay naku, talagang MFEO si Nico at Adi!! mukhang magkakasundo sila once they get to meet anoh?
yes, narinig ko na rin yang Jumpstart dun sa school ni Nico. if you’re referring to this Jumpstart mukhang maganda nga.
re: laptop purchase, naku, wag naman muna.
The Caillou freebie from Nido was really a good series… Jake also enjoyed doing the games. Don’t you just find it amazing that pre-schoolers or even younger kids could operate the computers/laptops very easily? Galing!
cali- what???
hehehe! hindi yata ako nakabili ng nido nung time na yon.
my son was into educational games in the computer when he was in nico’s age. meron online, our favorite then was starfall.com, wc was about alphabet and early reading.
pero ngayon, 6yo na siya going on 7 in a couple of months… hay naku, bored na siya sa ganyan. “when i was a baby” lang daw yan
so in a little while, ayaw na ni rin ni nico nyan, maghahanap na ng next level
hi Linnor
all praises for Nido for that wonderful freebie.
heehee, amazing talaga to see kids as experts as adults in operating the computer.
not to surprise us later on, magpapabili na din sila ng pricey IT gadgets!
Cess, hahaha, Nido offered it last quarter of 2005 ata, I think. di ko na rin matandaan, heehee.
na mention din yan ni Thet sa akin, yang starfall.com last Friday. aba, I checked it out, ang ganda nung site. very interactive! at naku, nung pinakita ko kay Nico, hala ayan na, lalo nang may invader sa computer.
I agree, I agree. sadyang pang-baby pa yang Caillou. parang yung preference din nila sa cartoon shows, ganun din. dati, satisfied na sa Dora at Blues Clues, ngayon ayaw nya na nun. pang baby lang daw kasi. at ang gusto nya na now–Naruto lang naman!
I just love how Nico utters, “Oops try again.” It’s so cute!
Yohan loves playing online games too and matching games is among his favorites. He likes playing games on Disney Playhouse website.
Thanks for sharing the link. I have bookmarked it and will explore it with Yohan soon.
It was wonderful seeing you again Feng. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos through e-mail. Hope to see you again soon. Take care.
Hahaha. Alam mo Rach, mas matatawa ka dyan pag nadinig mo nagsasalita kahit tulog, yung matching game ang napapanaginipan. LOLz
we haven’t visited the Disney website. if Yohan loves it there, baka magustuhan din ni Nico.
well go check it next time, pag sawa na sya sa Starfall, heehee.
it was wonderful seeing you as well Rach. till next meetup.
at sana mahaba haba ang kwentuhan natin ano? bitin kasi eh.
