MAKING THE “GOING OUT FOR PIZZA” THING A HABIT

I was reading my regular doze of “soul food” at Bro. Bo Sanchez’ the other day and as usual, I was glued hanging out there for a few hours (or more?) just clicking and reflecting on Bro. Bo’s insightful posts. One thing I love about Bro. Bo’s posts was that no matter how old his posts were, they’re just simply thought-provoking and would most likely motivate readers (at least in my case) to dig back to those posts and then perhaps, move me for my own quite time to reflect.

An old post of Bro. Bo that got me reflecting once more was that post where he relished the good old days he had with his late Dad. Bro. Bo’s Dad, at that time he wrote the post, just passed away, thus, it was quite one of those emotional but insightful post that I’ve read so far of his Blog. But a part of that post that struck me was how Bro. Bo best recalled his Dad of—”the Dad who brought me out for pizza”.

Of course, what he meant by those words should not be interpreted as exactly the literal pizza going out thing. Reading further the following lines in his post, he meant to say that his Dad spent a great deal of time with him, and that was the point he was exactly stressing at–that the great father he remembers is not merely the one that has great achievements, but the father that is remembered how he showed his love in little ways. SANCTUARIO DE SAN ANTONIO

24 February 2008 — It’s a Sunday, and like most Christian families in the world, we went our way to the House of the Lord to feed our souls. But for this particular Sunday, we drove off to Sanctuario de San Antonio, the patron saint of “lost causes and finder of lost things” and offered a Mass for a close relative who has been missing for two weeks. :(

PLAYING MEMORY-MATCHING GAME: THE NICO WAY

And so Nico’s been hooked to playing computer games lately. Well, not that we’re tolerating him to get addicted, but we’ve thought that allowing him to invade some precious space in front of the computer for a few minutes wouldn’t hurt. He’s a growing little kid exploring and developing at his own phase anyway, so for as long as computer gaming is done in moderation, that’s just perfectly fine with us. :)

Anyway, after being amused with the colors and shapes of Zuma and Bejeweled for quite sometime, our Little Boy has been hooked lately to Caillou’s Series of Educational Games. We’ve had the Caillou CDs (by the way, the CD versions are far much better and comprehensive than the online version) when Nido Fortified had them as freebies back when Nico was around 2 years old but it was only lately that we had the chance to install it. And since the day it was installed, Nico got hooked and discovered the fun of answering the quizzes. I think I have mentioned that Nico’s an Alphabet and Numbers addict, but surprising it was when the Little Boy preferred playing Caillou’s Thinking Skills series more than the Alphabet and Numbers game series. :)

Anyway, before I really get myself too out of topic to the title of this post, let me go straight to what it’s suppose to mean. Continue Reading »

VDAY AND LIL BOY’S NOT-SO-READABLE CARD FOR MOMMY

I know, I know, Valentine’s Day is definitely over. But please bear with the mushiness but I just wanted to journal this first Valentine card I received from my Little Boy on the afternoon of the red-letter day.

I don’t know if you can read his scribblings, but from how I see it, the card says: Dear Mom and Dad, Happy Valentine’s Day. Love, Nicolas G. Brum. :) Ayaw pa talaga kundi kumpletuhin name nya. LOLz.

It may not be the most expensive gift ever in this world that a Mom can get, but the thought that he prepared one for me (actually, it was his Dad’s idea, heehee) definitely meant so much. Ain’t that the sweetest? Continue Reading »

MAKING SENSE OF THE BIRD’S FIRST YEAR

They say that the first year is probably the hardest, but is considered a milestone that truly deserves a celebration once it is reached. True? I ought to think so because that’s exactly what we went through during the first year since we put up our little growing business.

On Heart’s Day of 2007, one of our long term goals—to be able to start a business of our own finally came into reality. I vividly remember then how busy I was manually writing the delivery receipt details for all the publications we were about to distribute to all drop off points in Metro Manila. And while I feel the tips of my thumb and middle left fingers developing callus, Hubby, together with just one helper, carry on in segregating the newspapers one by one, not minding the smudges of dirt from the loads of newsprint in their hands. And all of that we quickly did on the wee hours, just to make ends meet with four of our delivery staff who must then deliver the newspapers at designated points before the break of dawn. Imagine that! While all couples and lovers in the world painted the town red, we dirtied our hands with charcoal-like tinges. Continue Reading »

COVER GIRL IN RED :)

Heehee, can’t get enough of tags. Here’s a hitting two birds tags from Mitch, in one stone post—MagMyPic and Color it Red.

For the Color It Red tag, the rules are:
Since it’s the month of Feb, I thought of doing this meme. Let’s color our blogs red this month! Here’s the drill:

1. Post YOUR photo wearing red, may it be a red top, bottom, the least would be red accessories if you hate wearing red… If you can’t find one, you still have an option…. Either post your Significant Other’s photo or your child’s photo, if you have one. Of course, they should be wearing red.
2. Let us know the reason why you were wearing red that particular day. Was it your birthday? Is red your fave color or was it the shirt that you first saw in your closet that day?
3. Tag 3 people close to your heart. By the way, they have to be in your blogroll. No cheating heart pleaseeeeeeee!
4. Once you’re tagged, could we please keep it going - just for this month?

And so here goes my entry :) Continue Reading »

DISCIPLINE WITHOUT SPANKING

This is an answer to the parenting tag by Mitch: To Cane or Not to Cane?

***

Whenever I am asked of the question, my quick answer would always be a big NO-NO to spanking. Why? Plan and simple, the truth is—spanking is a form of violence and is never the positive way of disciplining a child.

Unfortunately, I’m speaking on personal experience. :( I confessed that once, I had laid my hands on my son at one time he was at his worst. And after that, ever I felt so guilty and never did it again. I clearly remembered that my emotions were running really high during that time I spanked my son that I became so enraged prompting me to hit my son hardly so as to release my anger. And I regret that I did it because I knew it definitely did not give the kind of respect I wish my son had for me, but instead, it only instilled fear of him in me. Continue Reading »
