BEHEADED DRAGON BALL Z AND TEACHING A CHILD TO CARE FOR TOYS

This is a fact and so I agree:

One of the most important things a child does is play. Play is the essential joy of childhood and is also the way children learn about themselves, their environment and the people around them. As they play, children learn to solve problems, get along with other people and control their bodies as they enrich their creativity and develop leadership skills.

When children play with a broad variety of toys, the experiences help them to develop to their fullest potential. Children bring boundless energy and imagination to their play with toys and constantly developing new and creative ways to play. Because there are so many different kinds of toys and novel way to play with them, children learn that the world is a diverse place with unlimited possibilities. Toys thus have an exciting role in helping children to become mature, confident and imaginative adults. (US’ Consumer Product Safety Commission)

In fact, we’ll never get tired providing our Little Boy with the most appropriate toys, if not for that “something fishy” (or shall I say, something morbid?) that he often does with the poor toys, to which we wished he didn’t do:

Poor Dragon Ball Z characters, one was beheaded,
while the rest were…err, disarmed?

Just recently bought during our grocerying last Sunday, this set of Anime characters was the latest victim of Nico’s increasing curiosity over how toys would react if they exist in real life. Huhuhu, I even saw these toys complete with their arms might and proud while Nico was playing with them this morning before he goes to school, and now whuatttt?

Before that, six collectible Ferrari cars that Nico’s Dada patiently completed from our gasoline purchases at Shell were likewise victimized with the rubber wheels of each of the cute little red innate objects removed. When asked why he often disassembles his toys, Nico would say: (for the Ferrari cars) “Kunwari Mommy na flatan ng gulong kasi malayo na na drive nya, tapos, sumabog yung gulong kasi sobrang bilis tumakbo. Kaya yun, wala ng gulong”. And for the Dragon Ball Z characters, he explained to us: “Eh kasi po, nag-fight sila. Eh bida si San Goku, kaya ayun, yung isa, wala ng head, tapos lahat sila, naputulan sila ng kamay”.

Grrrr, sometimes the thought of not-to-buy-Nico-toys-from-this-day-to-forever came to mind. But the way we see it, Nico’s just in the stage of pretend play like what most preschoolers are. As they say, “preschoolers are masters of make-believe” and that said, we simply can’t help but give in to some of his smart reasoning. And most often, we join him with his pretend plays. Isn’t that the craziest? :)

Well I guess, there’s nothing wrong with that. The parenting challenge now, is for us to teach him to care for his toys. You know, the concept of put-them-in-their-original state and putting-your-toys-where-they-belong-after-play. That way, it will help foster a sense of responsibility and teach that care must be given to valued belongings such as toys.

Sigh. Hope we can do it. Wish us luck and more and more guts!

My daughters’ toys are much better but Julian’s 40+ collection of toy cars are all in need of body repair: paint, wheel alignment, dents and bumps. Even the Ferrari collection of my hubby during the mid90s (which were far better than the collection they offered recently) were also battered.

At least we know they enjoyed, though at times, much to our chagrin. Magsisi na lang sa huli if the price for these collectibles are high and we can’t sell ours, lol!

mwahahaha…sabi ko na nga ba eh. adi is exactly the same way. all their barbies and barbiekunos are now just trunks. no head, arms, legs!! first she disposes the clothing. then the legs, arms and finally the head. and she also removes the stickers on all the toys with stickers (like play kitchens). gaby is not like that. she’s a pack rat and keeps everything. i knew it…nico and adi have so many things in common :)

Teacher Julie, I have to believe that girls are far better in caring for their belongings vs. boys, that’s why. :)

Re: “At least we know they enjoyed” –that’s Hubby’s reason too. May it be books or toys that got rotten, that only means they enjoyed playing/reading them.

Cookie, so ganyan din pala si Adi? hahaha, mukhang compatible na compatible talaga ang dalawa ah, dami nilang similarities. for sure, magkakasundo sila when they get to meet. :)

kudos to Gab. ang sinop naman nya. how I wish Nico would eventually learn to care for his belongings.

hay naku! my daughter also has a penchant for dismembering dolls and “rearranging” anatomy. she has this wonder woman figure na tinanggalan ng leg. and then sinabit nya yung paa sa arms ni wonder woman.
