LOVE IS STAYING UP ALL NIGHT WITH A SICK CHILD

Love is staying up all night with a sick child.

Even if it takes getting yourself into trouble the next morning.
When you fell in deep sleep the whole time you were commuting.
That you hardly notice, you’re almost out of route on your way to work.
If not for the courteous driver who notified you, “Wake up, you’re here, get down and walk”.

And upon reaching the workplace,
You feel like you’re in a menace,
Your head is aching, your back is aching,
You’ve got large eye bags, and oh my, they really sag!

But you know, that’s just A-okay,
Never feel bad for today’s still a wonderful day,
Because the sick child you’ve stayed up all night,
Is now doing fine, fairly healthy, and alright.

And remember, Love is staying up all night with a sick child.

***

An spontaneous poem composed by me for my son Nico, as inspired by David Frost’ famous quotes on Love, and of course, :) the driver of the cab (LOL).

Nico’s got a clogged, runny nose plus, he’s wearing a slight fever due to inflamed tonsils since last night. Me and his Dad stayed up all night to monitor his fever and give meds every four hours, and at times he had a hard time breathing, we nebulize him with NSS as prescribed by his doc. Sigh.

We suspected he got it again from school when classes resumed Monday and every time sickness happens, I can’t help but feel a bit depressed. I’m keeping my spirits high though and just do everything I can so Nico will get better. And thank God, he’s already doing fine this morning. :)

Hi Feng. I know how it feels to have a sick child in your hands. I’m sure you’ll agree that if mothers like us could only absorb our children’s sickness, we would do it in a blink of an eye.

I’m glad that Nico is doing better now. God bless everyone in your family.

Its the weather. Adi is also having another bout of asthma for the last 2 days and we’ve been nebulizing, or “choo-choo train” as we call it, on a round-the-clock schedule. Sabi ko sayo MFEO (Made for each other) si Adi at si Nico eh :)

Kami namin hindi na gumagamit ng NSS. According to one of our pedia/pulmo, it can sometimes worsen asthma attacks. We use nebules na. Since then, Adi’s attacks have been easily manageable.

Hope Nico gets better soon :)

The things we do for our children. They are the fulcrum of our life.

I am glad it’s not asthma. Some of my children had asthama as young children … and partly because I was so vigilant about it (asthma scares me as i saw how my own father suffered when he had attacks), they somehow outgrew it. But while i wasn’t looking, my already grown daughter got it, from an allergy to an anti-MVP medicine she was taking. Ay, naku, i think she will have to live with it. :(

Ang pogi ni Niko, maysakit o wala. :)

Hi Feng! I hope Nico is better now. Naku, the worst talaga when kids get sick. My Nate has just gotten well from a cough, though may residual colds pa.

Pakurot nga sa mga super chubby cheeks na yan! *gigil*

I like your new template, btw. Happy new year!

Cess, mukha ngang dahil sa panahon. good thing coz the cold didn’t worsen na rin.

thanks Rach. if we can just have the sickness transfered to us talaga ano? good thing, it’s viral lang so we need not give him antibiotics.

Cookie. sorry to hear about Adi. hope the little adorable girl is a-OK now. :) at MFEO talaga ang dalawa, halos sabay pa nagkasakit!

ah eh, yung NSS, mukha ngang di effective. we discontinued it the next day. sana pala nag vaporizer na lang kami para ma unclog yung airways. thanks for the tip!

annamanila, that’s why we’ve been watching his weight for sometime now, so that the occasional coughs and colds won’t develop into asthma later on.

sorry to hear about your daughter :) hope she’s coping pretty well.

Chats, Happy happy new year to you as well. :)

hope that Nate’s doing better now. hirap pa naman talaga when our kids got sick, walang tulog tayong mga Mommies sa pag mo monitor!

re: the template, and I love your new template as well, minimalistic yet elegant. pag na tripan ko, download na naman ng bagong template dito. :)

I know what you mean. Julian stays with us in our room because he always has cough and a little bit of wheezing that only the nebulizer can control.

We have to replenish the Mangosteen tea bags we had because it helped the wheezing a bit, though he only had a few glasses then. The fresh mangosteen were very expensive pre-New Year so we made do with the tea bags.

Wishing you and your family well, Feng :)

am sorry to hear about Julian, Teacher Julie. :( hope he’s feeling better now. the weather’s been so unpredictable these past few days, that’s why.

so you use Mangosteens for asthma attacks. hmmm, thanks for the tip. we could try that next time in case Nico is attacked–which we hope will be far from reality. *fingers crossed*

It’s good to know that Nico is feeling better now, I hope he doesn’t get the attacks much. I used to have asthma and my mom would be up all night too.

I’ve tried all sorts of remedies before but nothing really worked. They wanted me to eat lizards too. Some say that Asthma is an allergic reaction and it only makes sense to use anti-histamines.
We had a family friend who used to send me medicines from US which worked, I was too young to pay attention to the name but I suspect it was anti-histamine because it sure knocks me out. I hope Nico outgrows it.

  15. Feng on 21.01.2008 at 14:56 (Reply)

KK/Tina, I’ve heard of the lizards as gamot for asthma too. I think, the old folks said you have to eat that grilled, yikes diba? hope you were able to tolerate the taste.

thanks for your well wishes for Nico. he’s doing better now. :)
