WHOSE WEDDING TO ATTEND IN DECEMBER?
I used to think that the month of December was the most popular month for weddings in the Philippines until I followed a news article at Manila Standard online edition, a link I got from Weddings At Work, showing that it is during the month of May that most Pinoy weddings are held, backed up by figures from the National Statistics Office. The month of December ranked only second in the NSO figure, which further analyzed that the month of May, being the season of flowers and festivals and fiestas, was a major factor that influenced the choice of couples to marry. “Riding on the ‘fiesta’ occasion may be one of the factors that influenced the choice of couples to marry during this month,” the news report said.
But then this figure from NSO was culled four years ago, so I thought that maybe, the figure changes every year. You know why I thought of that? Well, as early as October, we’ve received nine wedding invitations already! And all are set to marry next month—December. Of course, we’re very happy to receive the news that friends, former classmates and family acquaintances are getting married. In fact, Hubby and I are giddy and excited to think of gifts to give for each of the nine couples. Most of them have bridal registries in several Department Stores anyway, so choosing a gift won’t be too much of a problem. This early too, we’re already looking for clothes to wear to fit in their motifs/themes. But…
The problem is that five of these weddings happen to fall on the same date—December 15, making it quite impossible to attend all five of them (even if we go lagare) because the places are too far from one another. Added to that was two of these weddings are really expecting our presence on their most special day. The first wedding, I happen to be one of the Principal Sponsors (yes, you read it right!). An inaanak of mine sa binyag mistakenly got me to be one of her Principal Sponsors (gosh, am I that old?) and she had told me of this momentous occasion in her life some six months back! The other one is Hubby’s co-Rotarian, whose wedding will be celebrated in the romantic beach of Boracay. The groom, who is currently president of the Rotary Club where Hubby belongs, also expects us to be present during their union (Hubby and the groom being the most magkabagang in the Club as they are the only two members in their middle 30’s, the rest were somewhere in their senior years).
That dilemma said, it made me think: “Gosh, what in the world does the 15th have for all of these five couples to choose that date?” I looked in the calendar and ting! Most likely, I got their point. The 15th falls on a Saturday and perhaps, the couples choose that as the most perfect wedding date to mean that they can go on a honeymoon and be back after a number of days in time for spending Christmas and New Year with their loved ones. And that, at least that for this Christmas, they will spend already as married couples. How’s that for a theory eh? Well, I should know because we thought of the same when Hubby and I were planning the date of our quite complicated wedding then. We got married on the month of December too, close to the 15th, or the 17th of year 2000 to be more exact. LOL. And so was my Mom and Dad (December 12th) and my sister and her husband (December 16th).
If my guesses serves me right, maybe for this year, my first notion that December was the most popular month for Pinoy weddings, could be correct after all. But that is not what I am bothered about really. My problem now is whose wedding in December should we attend?
Inserted are photos of the romantic Boracay Beach Wedding invitation.

The wonderful artwork of front cover of the invite.

The invite also indicated what clothes to wear during the Beach wedding.

Details on how to get there also included.

…and some Boracay travel tips.

Boracay!! Who wouldn’t? Plus, you get to spend some “quality time” with the hubby in one of the most romantic places on the planet. Whaddya think?
Go to the one which had you as a principal sponsor, after all, she is your goddaughter, making you like a part of the family. My 2cents.
Hope you will decide soon and be ready to explain why you can’t go to those other wedding
^ oo nga, kung saan ka may role
I had a similar dilemma last year. The wedding of my niece and the wedding of my god daughter. I thought I could attend both but one was in makati, the other in manila and it was traffic-heavy saturday night. I settled for the wedding of my pamangkin because I know my sister — may she rest in peace — would never forgive me if I missed that.
Tama sila, you got to attend the wedding where you have a paper (papel).
hi Nice. sorry for late reply.
yeah, I hope we can figure out whose wedding to attend soon. that’ll be barely 16 days from now.
Cookie, hello! late reply ako.
super busy eh.
hahaha, pareho kayo ng priority ni Hubby. he really wants us to attend the Boracay wedding para daw 2nd honeymoon na din pagkatapos.
I’ve updated the post, to include the photos of the Boracay invite.
Teacher Julie, contrast to Hubby’s desire for us to attend the Boracay wedding, my Mom said it would be a mortal sin not to attend my inaanak’s wedding. But you know, when I told her about the Boracay wedding, aba, pati sya, gusto na sumama sa amin dun.
ladycess, aba eh, naka ready na nga yung gift ko for my inaanak. pero yung isusuot ko if ever we’ve decided to attend my inaanak’s wedding, nakupo, problema pa rin.
AnnaManila, with a sincere gesture to be excused from the other wedding, I’m sure the other wedding that you weren’t able to attend understood you.
gee, we might as well decide not later than the coming week, or else, we’re doomed.
