PARANOIA OVER A PRESCHOOLER’S LACK OF INTEREST TO WRITE, SOLVED!

I use to worry about Nico’s lack of interest to write over the last few months. My worry was so intense than usual that I panicked too much. Not even the reassurance from Blogfriends stopped me from worrying, would you believe? In between work and family chores, I did some research too, get advices from Moms alike (I even bought Nico a huge white board with all the blue and red lines in it, just as was Rach advised!), compare my son’s milestones with kids of his age, and even pondered on pursuing a consultation with a specialist, etcetera–were to name a few of the most ridiculous moves that I did.

Hubby wasn’t aware of such overrated moves I did but the moment he discovered I scheduled an appointment with a doctor (thanks to Nico’s Neonatologist who broke the news to him), I was doomed! He was quite upset but fairly holding on to his temper, ever understanding Hubby begged that I stop as he said I was just overreacting and only paranoid about simple things. It took me a while to follow though but I stopped.

Guess I should have listened because a nice surprise greeted me last week when I opened my bag and saw this scribbled in my steno notepad:

The first line was Nico’s scribbling of his own name!

The patient Dada told me Nico voluntarily wrote his name in the pad of paper and asked for Dada’s help in guiding him to write the letter G. It happened at one time I left them at home to run for some errands and the Dada intentionally kept it a secret until I discovered the nice surprise on my own. The scribbling didn’t make it through the lines and letter S was written inverted but I am happy anyhow!

A Mom’s paranoia over a son’s lack of interest to write is now declared: SOLVED!

Since then, Nico has been getting good remarks in his writing class:

He’s also quite diligent in practicing at home by reviving some old and rotten toys such as this magic slate which was a gift from Ninang Michelle:

Now, the next thing to worry is how to convince a preschooler to go slow because geez, would you believe it? He’s now so addicted to practicing his writing skill! As in, Nico’s now advanced to working into the last few pages of his Writing workbook—tracing and writing the letter Y, and it seems there’s no turning back. Evidence in a video that can be viewed below:

And just in case the video won’t show, click here.

My advance apologies for the unlighted and shaky video, limited by available technology, hehe.

Pareho silang lefty ni Gaby. You know what, I used to worry too about Gaby and Adi. I also bought all sorts of doodads just to encourage them to write. Then when I talked to the teacher sabi niya hindi naman daw sila ganun sa class. Masyado ko lang sigurong bina-badger kaya nag-resist. Now I have to stop them from writing kasi kahit nakapatay na ang ilaw, pen or writing-toy pa din ang hawak.

You can now rest easy. I guess we, as Moms, can’t help it sometimes :)

Cookie, hala Gaby is a left-handed too? I’m a lefty myself, so I think Nico got it from me. yours was exactly my sentiment too. I’ve been bothered by the lack of interest to write before, but now that he discovered the fun in writing, there’s no stopping him na. sukat ba naman pati organizer ko at steno notepad sa bag ko eh punuin ng scribblings nya! oh well, ang sabi naman ng Dada, pasalamat pa nga daw dapat ako kasi hindi na sya nagsusulat sa walls ng bahay. LOL :)

I’m so glad that Nico is showing remarkable progress, even going beyond what is expected from him in school. I’m sure the support and encouragement you gave him was very helpful.

hi Rach! :) and am so much relieved with his progress in writing. and I don’t really mind buying him pads and pads of paper so long as he enjoys writing. :)
