SOMETHING POTTED IN TAGAYTAY, THE BAHAY KUBO, AND TOM’S WORLD

It’s definitely not the first Monday of the month anymore and that should have meant I’m too late to submit an entry for the Fun Photo Find Activity of the Pinoy Moms Network called PMN FamPics. Sad me. And poor me because since this Photo Hunters-inspired photo scavenging activity was announced at the PMN site, I was one of those Mommy members who was all giddy and ever-excited to participate. But there I go again with my amnesia (and I always have the emergency Caesarian Section birth three++ years ago as an excuse) that I entirely forgot to photo hunt for SOMETHING POTTED–the PMN FamPic’s theme for September.

So then I said to myself: “Oh well, that’s life. I’ll just make sure to prepare my entry for next month’s theme and that I’ll just enjoy the following day hopping through the entries of Mommies who were able to participate in this month’s theme”. But wait till I checked into the PMN site this morning, Connie just announced the extension for the submission of entries until tomorrow, Wednesday, 05 September. And yey, I was jumping in joy upon reading it, saying to myself “Yipee, it’s never too late to photo hunt for SOMETHING POTTED”. So here goes my entry.

SOMETHING POTTED. The first thing that naturally came into mind was a flower or plant pot, specifically the Terracotta-colored ceramic plant pots called PASO in the Pinoy language. Then I said: “Aha! We had several, one taken at our trip to Tagaytay back in 2006, and some two or three more taken at my Mom’s Bahay Kubo in Morong Rizal”. Read on.

POTTED plants in Tagaytay

Above are photos of potted plants I took during our unplanned trip to Tagaytay back in 2006. Aside from the famous Bulalo and other Pinoy delicacies and the breath-taking scenery of the Taal Lake, Tagaytay is also known for its abundance of flowers and plants which are readily saleable at commercial stalls. And of the POTTED flowers I saw, my personal fave was that group of POTTED Lilac to Bluish varieties of Hydrangeas.

Nico watering POTTED plants at his Lola Mommy’s Bahay Kubo

That’s my then two-year old son Nico watering some of the POTTED plants of my Mom at her most-treasured Bahay Kubo. Surrounded by lots of POTTED and hanging plants, my Mom’s Bahay Kubo which is located at the backyard of my parent’s home in Morong, Rizal, is the place where we family often hang out whenever we had a chance to visit my parents on lazy weekends, sharing a good time bonding, chitchatting, or simply pigging out on something that Mom cooked.

A POT of prize at Tom’s World
And lastly, here’s a peculiar interpretation of this month’s theme SOMETHING POTTED. Not the usual SOMETHING POTTED that we naturally would think of though, but playing around the words and looking at its various meaning at Dictionary.com, here’s my last set of SOMETHING POTTED photos.

That’s a photo of my son Nico trying his best to target and shoot more and more balls in the animal holes and be able to take home a POT of prize. The only suitable game at Toms World-Robinson’s Galleria for kids of Nico’s age, the mechanics of this board game is to shoot as many balls from a given POT of balls in the animals holes as you can. A minimum of 10 balls shoot in the holes allows a player to take home the basic POT prize–a pack of Taquitos (which Nico got for scoring 14 points).

And here’s how other Mommy participants in the PMN FamPics interpreted the word POTTED. Happy viewing! :)

Hi Feng!! I love Lola Mommy’s bahay kubo!! It’s so nice! I can imagine how nice the weather is there. And her plants are so healthy.

Yung hita ni Nico parang hita ni Adi!! Pareho silang sexy!!

Uy, yan din ang favorite game in Gaby sa Tom’s World in Galleria. The last time she played she won Oishi but when she tasted it, maanghang pala. Nakakaloka yang game na yan!!

Hi Cookie. :) buti naman at nagustuhan mo ang Bahay Kubo ni Lola Mommy, ay naku those photos were taken a year ago pa, mas maganda na sya ngayon coz surrounded by drift woods with orchids ang Kubo. :)
hehe, at napansin mo pa hita ng anak ko. ganyan din pala hita ni Adi? he was 2 years old when that photo was taken, medyo overweight sya noon. good thing we put him on diet, so now medyo na-control na ang weight gain. :)
ay naku yung ball game na yan eh the only one suitable for our kids’ ages. ahay, may Oishi din pala sila. eh, maanghang nga yun. :)

Hi Feng. I’m glad the deadline was extended so others can post their Fam Pics. Muntik ko na din makalimutan.

I love the rows of flowers in Tagaytay. It’s just near our area so it’s a little easy to go there for some change in scenery.

I love the Bahay Kubo. It looks like a perfect place to relax and enjoy a nice day with the family. Nico’s pictures reminded me of how Yohan loves to water plants too. In school, they had a planting activity and he was able to take home the potted plant with him. He took on the responsibility of watering that special plant daily.

I know that game! Yohan loves playing that game too at Festival Mall (Alabang). So far, he has won a bag of chips, toy cellphone and pencil & pad kit. :)
BTW, good luck on your project in Batangas. Hope to meet up with you again soon. Take care!

Hello Rach! Am so happy and jumping with joy too when Connie announced an extension. :) at least nakahabol ako.

oo nga pala, you’re very near lang in Tagaytay. lucky you. hay, bigla ko tuloy na miss ang place na yan, the weather, the scenery, the food, everything about the place, am missing it.

glad you loved the Bahay Kubo, it’s my Mom’s most treasured area in the house. she can stay there till God knows what time just watering her plants and getting rid of weeds growing.

at si Yohan, naglalaro din pala nyan. ay, pareho pala sila ni Adi and Nico. and looks like Yohan’s obviously hooked ha. imagine, going home with those toys and snacks. ay naku Rach, sinabi mo pa, dali maubos ng tokens for that game.

yes, I’ll definitely heads you up when Mom goes to Batangas, I’ll definitely join her to see you. :)

oh wow, i just saw my dream kubo! gusto ko rin yan sa likod bahay (sadly, hindi na pwede ngayon). pero gusto ko talaga yung garden na nilagyan ng bahay :) tinitingnan ko pa lang ang pictures damang-dama ko na ang fresh cool air.

good job at the game nico. kaya lang after all that hard work i believe you deserve a prize bigger than taquitos :)

The plants in Tagaytay really look wonderful, so alive.Haven’t tried getting one, baka kasi mamatay, kawawa naman. Hehe..

Lola Mommy’s Bahay Kubo is very nice. One of my dreams is to have one like that in the backyard but sadly, hindi kasya.

Haven’t tried that game yet. The kids love car games, with almost real-life graphics and the air hockey.

    Nice photos, Feng.

Thet, thanks. I’ll post the more updated photos pag nakadalaw kami ulit sa kanila. haven’t visited my Mom lately. :( re: the board game at Tom’s World, naku, tiyak, mag e enjoy si Iya dun. the one on Robinson’s Galleria is very big and spacious.

salamat at you loved the Kubo too, Kengkay.

Julie, ako rin, I don’t seem to have a green thumb so I haven’t attempted buying a potted flower plant. sayang ang ganda ng bulaklak, matutuyo lang yon, pag ako nag-alaga.

at pareho pa rin tayo sa dream bahay Kubo. we have around 160sqm. spare space at the side of our house but haven’t started cleaning the place. one of these days, I’ll start that kubo project, nice place for hanging out at syempre, para may playground ang anak ko.

try the game when you have a chance. kaaliw. :)

As a kid, I love it whenever we play at my Lola’s improvised bahay kubo. Ang presko kasi. Ang laking bata talaga ni Nico! Ang cute! Looking at Nico, I remember the tv ad years ago, “ang sarap kurut-kurutin”. Something like that. Tabachingching. :)

Hello Lynn, so your Lola had a Kubo too. ay, I’m sure, bahay-bahayan ang lagi nyong nilalaro dun sa Kubo ni Lola mo. :)
thanks Mitch! :) ay buti na lang talaga at na-extend ng deadline. sarap mag-hop from one Mommy entry to another. :)

I love those potted lavender flowers in Tagaytay. I once bought a pot, hoping to propagate and make a dreamy flowerbed of it… Of course, the dream turned into a nightmare - namatay ang halaman hahaha!
