THE PROS AND CONS OF WEANING AND POTTY-TRAINING

Our parenting tasks of weaning and potty training has gone a long way. Here’s to share some of its Pros and Cons.

Goodbye Beloved Bottle
And so for the past weeks or more, we’ve made a decision to drastically wean Nico from102806-009.jpg the bottle. So far, I am happy to say that with all the whining, tantrums, crankiness or whatever unruly behavior our Terrible Three had demonstrated so loudly and boldly, we’ve managed well to stick to our guns so there’s no more drinking of milk from the bottle, period!

It was a somewhat hurting decision on my part, because having the Mommy-heart in me, I don’t want Nico to think that he is being deprived of the foremost important staple in his life-milk. But then again, the same Mommy-heart in me reminded me also to fairly perform my disciplining duty as a parent especially that big boy Nico is going to school already. And so without ado, the weaning was implemented effectively immediately, drastically. Continue Reading »

SIX WEIRD THINGS AND FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE ME PROUD TO BE A PINOY

My apologies to Mommies Jane, KongKong, Mitch and Cess that I wasn’t able to do the Memes right away. But anyway, as they say, better late than never. So here goes:

Am I Weird or What? (Six Weird Things Meme)weird-or-what.jpg

  1. I am so addicted with calamansi that I often use it either as a condiment or food enhancer even to viands that supposedly need not require it such as Paksiw or Sinigang. And mind you, I don’t eat Pansit, no matter how delicious it is, without the maasim na calamansi. Is that weird or I just have a sour taste for food?
  2. I so so love eating hot rice poured over by carabao milk and some iodized salt. As they say in Tagalog, “kapag lahat nang yan ay available, aba eh, talo talo na sa pagkain ng almusal”. Wonder why carabao milk? Well, that’s the milk being rationed every morning in my hometown and guaranteed, it taste similar (or even better) than fresh cow’s milk. Is that weird or I just happen to have an odd taste for food? Continue Reading »

SOME EXCUSES FOR NOT BLOGGING THESE DAYS

To My Dear Blog Friends:

It’s not that I’ve lost connection in the Blogsphere or had neglected to visit your Blogs. Despite hectic schedules, I am happy to note that I am quite updated with all of your current posts. Thanks to Google Reader, I am somewhat like the image below, actually. :)

Hehehe. (Or maybe, I’m just tsismosa that I subscribe to your feeds). But nope, it’s not that I don’t have time to Blog. It’s just that… Continue Reading »

AN INVITATION TO SHARE THOUGHTS ON THE FINE ART OF BLOGGING

I was invited by Diogenes of Quasi Fictional Views to share some thoughts and insights on Blogging.

Quasi Fictional asks blog artists from around the world to share views on the Fine Art of Blogging. According to Quasi Fictional, Internet is a lonely place without blogging; a fine art, also a science, an economics. Blogs are different to different people.

Long before Dio’s invitation, I was really planning to do a comprehensive post on my thoughts about Blogging sooner as my online personal journal turns one year in the Blogging world in a few months time. Well I guess, the urge to recollect thoughts and write insights on Blogging came early by four months. Thus, my thoughts, which can be viewed here. (My apologies though for so so many unchecked errors in the entry, it was submitted on first draft)

Dio, thank you very much for this opportunity to be able to share a few thoughts. Kudos to you for this worthwhile Blogging initiative. :)

ATTEMPTS TO CAPTURE A KID SPELLING DOLCH SIGHT WORDS

I was in the middle of organizing our recent family photos by date and category/subject last night and along the way, I was reminded of Teacher Julie’s post regarding her potentially-gifted son Julian whom he brought to a Developmental Pediatrician for a consultation some two or three weeks ago. Like Julian, we also noticed how Nico was able to grasp Mathematical and English concepts so quickly including reading and spelling words.

All the while, I thought nakaka-tyamba lang si Nico. But as days passed by, we observed a recurring trend in Nico’s ability to read and spell words. I didn’t even know there was a term for those sets of words until I read that entry of Teacher Julie, whom she referred to as the Dolch Sight Word List. Continue Reading »

SERIOUSLY PLANNING TO BE A SAHM, BUT…

Whenever someone asked me or Jun on how old Nico is, we’d often get common comments like: “Oh, malaki na pala si Nico, hindi na gaanong intindihin/ hindi na gaanong mahirap alagaan”, as we answer our son is already three years old. As doting parents, such general comments somehow relieve us as we’d expect raising a child to be a little less demanding as our son grows older and stand to be more independent. Well, that was about two months ago.

Over the last two weeks, Nico has been attending pre-camp classes in the school where he will be going to, barely a week from now. The school is holding pre-camp classes as way to have the new students and their parents introduced and eventually adjust to this new phase in a child’s learning life. Lucky for a working Mom like me because, unlike the other working Moms who had no choice but to drop and leave their children in the care of Yayas, the school is just three buildings away from my office that I am able to join my son in between the two-hour pre-camp sessions without having to actually file vacation leaves. And lucky for me again because my boss, who was supportive enough to parents with little bunches like mine, allows me to spend time with my son in his class as soon as I’m done with my early morning news service and some write-ups. ON BREASTFEEDING AND BRA SIZES

I was on transit on my way to the Office this morning when I overly heard two women seated in front of me (I’m seated at the back of an AUV which seats four people, two in the left side, and two in the right side) talking about their concerns on breastfeeding. I assumed that the two ladies are mothers too as they were talking about their babies.

Mommy1: (noticing the photo in the wallet of Mommy2) Uy, ayan na ba ang anak mo? Patingin naman ng picture.

Mommy2: (lends the wallet with the photo to Mommy1) Oo, ayan ang baby ko.
