MY FIRST FEW DAYS OF BEING A SAHM

The first three days of being a stay-at-home Mom was equally okay. Thankfully, I’ve been adjusting well with my new routine though I have to admit that much as being a working Mom is difficult, so is being a SAHM.

While there’s no need to extend my sleep time to as late as past 10 just to cook my son’s meals for the following day and yet rush to waking up as early as 5 in the morning the next day, I’ve been trying to still stick on a schedule so that I can accomplish my lists of To-Do’s for the day.

My Daily Routine on Schooldays
It feels good preparing a “quality” and “healthy” breakfast for the family and yet enjoying the early hours in the morning without the need to rush. At last, we three are able to have quality time in the dining table to eat together and talk, unlike before that Jun and I hardly eat breakfast at home and Nico had no other choice but to have only his Yaya join him for breakfast. I AM OFFICIALLY A SAHM EFFECTIVE TODAY :)

Yes, you read it right. Effective today, 27 June 2007, I am officially a stay-at-home Mom. I haven’t formally filed my resignation yet, but I am about to inform my Office in a few days about my somewhat drastic move to finally decide to resign from my work of almost 10 years.

Letting the Office know of my decision would definitely be the hardest part. For one, it came in at a somewhat wrong time when our Office is on the heels of preparations for an upcoming regional trade event in a month’s time, and together with a colleague, I was appointed to take charge of the media accreditation (which will involve not only the media in RP but likewise the press coming from ASEAN and its trade partner countries) and as co-Press Center Manager during the 10-day event in Manila.

Nevertheless, I still hope that no matter how sudden this move was for me, Boss and I would get to agree on a good compromise that will allow me to make a smooth transition knowing I would leave a very understaffed team. I was appointed with ad hoc tasks (aside from my “real” technical staff work eg editorial/business news writing and media relations work) such as being the Special Disbursing Officer, Planning Officer, Budget Officer, HR point person, and tiga-timpla ng kape (pwede rin). SEVEN RANDOM FACTS AND HOW VAIN AM I MEMES

Thanks to Jen and Mitch for tagging me for the Seven Random Facts About Me. Here’s my somewhat Bio-Data type of Facts. :)

  1. Everyone else in the Blogsphere knew only my nickname, but my real name, you guys have no idea at all. It’s too late for me to blame my parents for giving me such birth name (because I hate it, actually) but anyway, here’s for all of you to guess that information. My first name is (just giving some hints and for all of you to guess, hehe): F_ R _ Y; and then attached to it is my second name: ANN.
  2. My B1/B2 US Visa will expire on 05 February 2008.
  3. My score for the NCEE was 96% while my average score for the Civil Service Professional Exam was 81.89% (yikes, ang baba).
  4. My UP Student Number was _ _-78255 (never mind the first two digits, mabubuking kung gaano na ako katanda).
  5. My PIN (Personal Identification Number) used to be 0793 for all my ATM and credit cards. But I changed my PIN for all the cards effective 01 January 2004 (but of course, I won’t reveal this fact here should it have been the same PIN, hehe).
  6. My religion is Protestant (Church of Christ) but I attend Sunday Masses with my little family as both of them are Roman Catholics.
  7. My Blood Type is O and my husband’s type is AB. Surprisingly however, our types are incompatible with that of our son as his Blood Type is A+. (But I’m 100% sure he’s our son, no doubt about that). :)

Now, I was also tagged by Kathy for the How Vain Are You? Meme. Here’s the result for me, after taking the brief quiz: Continue Reading »

REMEMBERING DAD ALL THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF JUNE AND AS ALWAYS

I know it’s too late for a Father’s Day greeting as the dear day for Dads was already celebrated a week ago. For our family though, the entire month of June is my Dad’s day, err, my Dad’s month. Why? The 3rd of June was supposedly his 56th Birthday, the 2nd Sunday of June as the “official” Father’s Day celebration in Pinas and among other countries, and today, the 25th of June, was his 1st Death Anniversary.

I don’t wish to pour in scribblings of sorrow today as we in the family remember this very faithful day. True enough, nothing could be more painful than to suffer the loss of someone so dear–especially if that one person was that of who gave you your life. There are no exact words to describe how much I missed my Dad especially at moments when silence, depression, and tiredness set my heart and mind yearning. Continue Reading »

THREE STARS ON THE SCHOOL’S FIRST DAY OF CLASSES

This I have to brag. My little preschooler got three stars on his first day in school last Monday, 18 June 2007, and that makes us truly proud. No first day jitters or whatsoever unruly behavior of a three year old (I guess the pre-camp classes helped). Surprisingly we just saw a preschooler that was well-behaved and very cooperative all throughout the 2-hour class session. He was even was able to impress his Teacher. :)
Nico got three stars for 1) Reciting his complete name confidently when the Teacher asked him to introduce himself. He was never shy and was even able to spell his full name out loud; 2) Coloring the drawing in the piece of paper given by the Teacher. When the Teacher asked what color is most appropriate for the drawing, Nico said “Red because it’s a cherry”; and 3) He’s so well-behaved during the recess/break that Nico lined-up quietly and patiently wait for his turn to pee in the bathroom. ANOTHER YAYA RESIGNATION IN THE OFFING

And it happened once more. Nico’s Yaya is hinting to resign again. This time, it was not about the cellphone issue but just about a shallow reason which we found so vague. Last week, in the middle a very hectic day in the office, Yaya Ness interrupted me with a call just to say she’s so bored with her daily routine that she wanted a new job that would challenge her. I was like puzzled by the way she told me her reason for resigning because I just don’t get her point. “Bakit, ano na naman ang problema mo? Bakit na naman gusto mong mag-resign?” I asked her. “Wala po, sobrang nabo-bored na po ako sa trabaho ko,” she answered. I was about to rebut some more to ask her questions when all of a sudden I heard her crying out loud, as in hagulgol sa pag-iyak then saying, “Ate, nalulungkot po ako”.

I want to scream the moment I hear Ness’ reasons. Lucky I was able to control my temper a bit, though medyo nag-ala Annabelle Rama na ako with words as: “Naku naman Day, ngayon ka pa nalungkot, mag two years ka na sa amin di ba? Ganyan lang talaga, kanya kanya lang talaga tayo ng gampanin sa buhay. Kala mo ba, madali lang para sa akin na iwanan ang anak ko ng mahigit 12 hours a day? Sobrang nalulungkot din ako Day. Sana maintindihan mo na ganyan talaga, kailangang mag sacrifice tayo para maghanap-buhay”. Continue Reading »

A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FROM OUR PRESCHOOL HUNT

It’s officially June as of this writing. And talking of June, aside from marking it as the start of the rainy season in Pinas, it also indicates the beginning of the school year. This year, my little preschooler joins amongst a thousand fold of students trooping their school classes. He’s three years old and attending the Junior Nursery class. And much as my Little Bunch is excited, so is the certified stage Mommy me.

But our journey to finding the most suited preschool for Nico was a long heck of a story. Surprisingly too, it was an eye opener and a worthwhile learning experience on the current state of preschool education in Pinas. After a comprehensive understanding about the different preschool teaching philosophies and programs (as I’ve earlier said in this post), we became more conscious in searching for not necessarily a school that has the best facilities, the best teachers and the one that produces the best students, BUT the school that suits and caters best to the learning style of our son.
