MEANING OF DREAMS

What could be the meaning of dreams?

Dreams, as defined by the Webster Dictionary as a sequence of sensations, images, thoughts, among others, passing through a sleeping person’s mind, were believed by experts to have its respective interpretations. In fact, many researches conducted by experts mostly in the medical and psychology professions came up with dream dictionaries and dream interpretation services to explain mysteries in such phenomena.

dreams

On our way to our respective workplaces this morning, Jun mentioned about his dreams last night. He said that he dreamed of my Dad asking him how our new business was doing and if ever, in what way Daddy even offered how he could be of help. That was the first scene in the dream when suddenly, Jun wandered why of all a sudden, Dad and him were in another setting again (this time in my parent’s home in Morong), and then Dad asked him to take off his shirt because it was his and not my brother’s as Jun originally thought. Then Jun woke up. It was already morning.

What a weird kind of dream. The scene where Dad was asking Jun how the business was doing is normal and understandable because even before Daddy died, we were really planning to venture into a business that my Dad was an expert on. But we backtracked later on this business soon as we realized it’s like “suntok sa buwan” to venture into something without ample knowledge on the business. And now that an opportunity knocked our doors to venture into a business that we truly understand, I told Jun that maybe, Dad, in his loving concern for us, wished to guide us even in spirit, as he sees from above that we are still struggling in establishing contacts with prospective clients. Maybe true. Jun was convinced enough with my interpretation as he thought of it too. I read in a website on dreams that “sometimes, dreams can be understood in the context of repressed thoughts and that dreaming serves as an outlet for those thoughts and impulses we repress during the day.”

You see, during the past weeks, we were really having a hard time in terms of the financial and manpower aspects of the business. We very much welcome newly sealed deals with clients as these meets our goal to attain “economies of scale” however, these would also require hiring of more manpower and investing into additional vehicles to be able to get our business moving. But it’s not that easy because even if my father-in-law is lending us money, it is still a must for us to infuse money from our own pockets simply because we are the very owners of the business. And gee, it’s quite hard as some allocations for the household expenses are somewhat lent to the business just as to get things going. Anyway, I just hope and pray that dream of Jun in a scene with Dad offering a hand would lead us to persevere and eventually succeed in our new venture.

The second part/scene of the dream where Dad asked Jun to hand him the shirt was something that still puzzles us up to now. What does it mean? And what about the shirt? Could it be that Dad was reminding Jun to change his sometimes “sumasablay na attitude” (as represented by the shirt) towards work? Or could it be that Dad wanted Jun not to follow his footsteps in terms of being so workaholic (again, the shirt represents it) that he gets to sort of pay equal attention to family time? Because like my Dad, Jun is also workaholic that this addiction seemed to lead to somewhat slaving/ abusing himself already and so health is compromised. Hmm, maybe it’s a warning. What do you think Blog?

I ticked a tab/option in this site about the meaning of shirts in dreams and this was the result:

Meaning of Dreams about Shirt
Psychological Meaning: This dream may represent your self-image and the way you present yourself to the world. A starched shirt may symbolize formal conservatism whereas a bright or unbuttoned shirt may show your unconventional free spirit. The dream could also be a play on words: are you being ‘shirty’ with someone?

Mystical Meaning: The gypsies believe that the more colorful the shirt you dream of, the luckier you will be.

Still talking about dreams, just a couple of weeks (I think) Nico’s Yaya mentioned that she dreamed of Nico loosing his front teeth. And during the dream, she said I was on a panic as soon as I saw what happened to Nico. Coincidentally, Jun and I dreamed of the same but on different days. I was thinking if this dream has something to do with my concern for Nico’s teeth. You see, Nico’s upper front tooth is already decaying and I am so disappointed I can’t do anything about it. It started to decay when he was 1 year 9 months when the upper front tooth was napingas because his face accidentally bumped into a hard surface at home. Dentally conscious that I am, we went to a pedia dentist before to have his tooth checked. I was considering Nico to have a jacket for the broken tooth but the dentist didn’t recommend it. Instead, the dentist advised us to just do a thorough and regular brushing of Nico’s teeth and having Nico drink water after milk, supposedly the culprit for tooth decays. The dentist said those are baby teeth anyway and that the permanent ones will pop when Nico’s about 6 or 7 years old. Though Nico’s fine with it, I am the one that’s very conscious and thinking about this tooth problem every now and then. Now going back to the interpretation of our dreams, it’s keeping me so worried (again, for the nth time) because from what I know of folk tales in our province, loosing teeth meant that someone is dying. I am trying to brush aside this dying thing because after Dad, I couldn’t imagine losing someone so dearly again. I hope this dream meant the opposite. I hope.

Again, looking for the meaning of losing teeth, the site generated these results:

What do dreams about teeth falling out mean?
Dreaming of teeth falling out may represent insecurity. These dreams often occur at a time of transition between one phase of life and another. When we lost our milk teeth, we also gradually lost our childhood innocence. Loosing your teeth therefore show that today you have similar feelings of uncertainty and self-consciousness as you did in childhood. The dream could also highlight your worries about getting older or your sexual attractiveness.

Animal teeth may represent aggressiveness and false teeth may represent concern about your self-image. The dream could also be triggered by subtle toothache that you are not yet consciously aware of.

Ask yourself:
1. Do I feel insecure because I’m starting a new phase of life? Katie’s dream may highlight her worries about soon reaching 40.
2. Am I facing reality? Dreams about loosing teeth may represent a retreat to the innocent times when you were a toothless baby and dependent for nourishment on your mother’s milk.

Mystical Meaning: The Nilotes of the Sudan believe that if a woman has a toothy grin it is a bad omen. It symbolizes the mouth of a wild animal that will frighten the cattle and superstitious lore insists that maidens with a wide smile be made beautiful by having their front teeth removed. An African witchdoctor would therefore interpret dreams about losing teeth as a sign of prosperity.

Hay, dreams, dreams. What do they really mean?

like they always say, dreams are products of our subconscious. i have not really been serious about interpreting dreams, what you shared is an eye opener. it’s interesting. as to falling teeth, i guess, we all once during our childhood had the same dream. hmmmm

I agree with Sexy Mom that dreams are products of our subconscious. It’s a reflection of our inner thoughts, fears and concerns. Since you mentioned that you have been concerned about your son’s teeth then most probably it has manifested in your dream as well.

I’ve heard about dreams about falling teeth being linked to premonitions of death. I’ve dreamt of my teeth falling off before and I was really scared and quite stressed about the possible meaning behind it. But I just kept praying and hoping that no harm will come to my loved ones and everything turned out alright.

sexy mom, i wasn’t that conscious in interpreting dreams before. in fact, i can’t even remember what i dreamed the night before because i’m just so carefree. i became serious about it though after several repetition of dreams that are so frightening.

rach, thanks for dropping by! yup agree with you, perhaps my constant thinking of my son’s decaying tooth was the reason for me dreaming of it. i just hope old folk tales does not hold true to the interpretation on dreaming of losing teeth. :)
